Interview: Beauty, Makeup, and Bridal Spa Parties

Chantale: I would like to welcome Vanna from Mobile Spa Toronto to our show today. Welcome, Vanna.

Vanna: Hello.

Chantale: We will be talking about beauty and makeup for a wedding and Mobile Spa will be offering their expertise to us. Vanna, what benefits do massage and aromatherapy offer a bride before her wedding?

Vanna: OK. Well, as we all know, planning a wedding could be an extremely stressful time. So having a massage can help relieve some of that stress and can help give any bride or groom to-be some much needed downtime. That way they can rest, relax, and recharge their batteries, so that they can tackle their pre-wedding to-do list head on.

Not only that, but because massage stimulates the body’s lymphatic system, it can actually help boost your immune system and reduce the chance of catching a cold or becoming ill before your big day.

Chantale: Oh that’s good.

Vanna: Yeah. At Mobile Spa Toronto, we offer a number of different types of massage, including aromatherapy massage, relaxing massage, and we even have a couple’s massage, which is always a nice pre-wedding treat for the bride and groom.

Chantale: That’s right. Well, every bride wants that perfect complexion on her wedding day. What can a bride do before her wedding day, to ensure that she has radiant skin?

Vanna: Of course, we believe that every bride is radiant and has a special glow on their big day, but to help enhance that natural glow, we would suggest drinking lots of water, and refraining from any drastic alterations to your diet or regular skin care routine.

Also, if you are planning on having a professional make-up application for your wedding day, we would suggest booking a trial a minimum of four weeks before the wedding day. That way you can work with our professional make-up artist to find the perfect palette to liven your natural color and complexion.

Chantale: OK. I guess it is to, if there is any kind of reaction that you are going to have, you would know it beforehand.

Vanna: Exactly. Yeah.

Chantale: Wonderful. Is there anything a bride should avoid doing the week before her wedding that may affect her skin tone, certain foods, any mask treatments?

Vanna: Well, once again, we would recommend that you don’t try anything drastically new than what you are already used to. The week before the wedding is not the time to start experimenting.

But if you think that you might want to try something new, something you have never done before, whether it be a new facial treatment, a new product, even a Brazilian bikini wax – we do that, but we would recommend that you do any of your “experimenting” a minimum of four weeks before the wedding.

But one thing that you can certainly do the week before the wedding, if you are running out of time and you want to something special, is you can have a manicure/pedicure spa party.

Chantale: OK.

Vanna: Yeah, it is a really good way to de-stress after everything that’s led to up this point. And it is a great way for the wedding party to connect and enjoy some quality fun time together.

Chantale: Yes, that sounds like a lot of fun.

Vanna: Yeah. We actually have a list of the different spa packages that we offer on our website.

Chantale: OK.

Vanna: Our website is www.mobilespatoronto.com, and we can also work with any wedding party to customize a specific package for their unique group.

Chantale: Great. Well, makeup is a critical part of achieving the right look on your wedding day, and you don’t want to trust just anyone to apply your makeup. What qualification should a bride look for in a makeup artist?

Vanna: Great question and it is a really important one too. Any good makeup artist will give you a CV, references, and a portfolio of their past work. It is also really; really important to book a trial run with a number of different makeup artists so that you can compare and find the one that understands you best, and makes you look your best.

Chantale: OK.

Vanna: And for weddings in particular, it is also important to choose a makeup artist that has experience with photographic or camera makeup. We all know that the camera can sometimes catch our most unflattering angle.

Chantale: Definitely.

Vanna: Yup.

[laughter]

And what you see in the mirror when you do your makeup is not always what’s captured on film. So the techniques of camouflage and correction are really, really important for bridal photography. A makeup artist that is well versed in these techniques can help tailor your look so that your photographs capture the best possible you.

We would suggest, when you go for your trial, take a picture of yourself after your trial or bring a video camera and capture a little of yourself on video, so that you have no big surprises on the big day.

And one last thing I want to mention is that a good makeup artist will work with you to create your big day look, and not pressure you into what’s new this season, or what everyone is wearing or what’s hot.

Chantale: That’s right. You don’t to wear something that looks good on someone else. You want something that looks good on you.

Vanna: Yeah. Working with your makeup artist to create your perfect look will make sure that your pictures are classic and timeless, rather than dated, and they will bring you happy memories of your special day when you look at them in the years to come.

Chantale: Those are great tips. Now, we all worry about chipping a nail and we know how busy the wedding day is, so when should the bride have her manicure done?

Vanna: Well, the day before the wedding is always best, but it’s not always possible. If the bride is having a polish done, we suggest having it as close to the wedding day as possible. We also recommend that they do a nude polish or a French manicure rather than a dark shade. This way, if in the unfortunate event that they do suffer a chip in the polish, it is not as noticeable.

Chantale: A good tip.

Vanna: One other thing is that, if you do polish make sure that your nail technician always uses a base coat, so that your polish adheres properly, and a top coat to keep the color from fading, especially if you are doing it more than two days before the wedding. For best results, we also recommend the manicure that includes exfoliation and moisturizing treatments so that the skin on your hands also looks radiant.

Instead of getting a polish, have your nail technician use a three-way buffer to buff your natural nail up to a high gloss shine, And then if you want, you can always put a top coat to strengthen the natural nail after the buffering and to fill in the free edge. This way you don’t have any chance of it chipping and your nails look brilliant and natural. You don’t have to worry about, “Oh, I nicked it. Now I have to touch it up.”

Chantale: Right. That’s another stress before the wedding is over.

Vanna: There sure is.

Chantale: Good idea. Well, I know Mobile Spa Toronto comes right to the home of the bride. What benefits are there to having your service right at your own home?

Vanna: Well, wedding planning is stressful enough without having the added hassle of fighting through traffic, to get to a full-order spa. With Mobile Spa Toronto, as you said, we come straight to you, so you don’t have to hassle with traffic. You don’t have to find parking. You don’t have to worry about walking out of the salon looking all disheveled after you have your hour-long indulging relaxing massage. You are already home.

Chantale: That’s right.

Vanna: Well, your wedding days is supposed to be a time for making cherished memories that will last a lifetime. The way we see it, let us take the hassle out of the pampering, while you work on those cherished memories and being pampered.

Chantale: Good idea – the good nuance. Now, is there one last tip that you could offer brides to make them look extra radiant for their wedding day?

Vanna: Yes, absolutely. And that would be relax and enjoy yourself.

[laughter]

Chantale: That’s so true. [laughter] That can have such an effect on your look. You can tell when someone is stressed. That’s excellent.

Vanna: Absolutely, you can. A spa party is a great to wrap up all the hectic chaos that has led up to your wedding day, to have some fun with your wedding party, and it puts you into the right mindset for enjoyment. You put in so much effort into making this your special day, and now it is time for you to sit back, take it all in, and enjoy your happily ever after.

Chantale: Isn’t that right.

Vanna: You know what I mean?
