If you are one of the many brides that have opted for wedding cupcakes as opposed to the traditional wedding cake, you are venturing on one of the trendiest paths for weddings this year.

Cupcakes have many great things going for them. They are economical, practical, fun, easy and best of all, you can do them yourself!

As far as baking goes, cupcakes are extremely easy but if you prefer to keep the baking to the professionals, then try your hand at arranging them for your wedding instead. This, too, will keep costs down. Here are some tips in arranging your own wedding cupcakes:

  • Buy a tiered cake plate; make sure you get a large enough plate to accommodate most if not all of your cupcakes
  • For a little added texture, you can buy different sized boxes, decorate them to match your décor and use them to create your own tower. You will need to purchase “legs” or “stands” from a craft store (bakeries usually carry them too) to stand each box onto the other.

  • If you are using your cupcakes as centerpieces, buy smaller tiered plates that will accommodate the number of cupcakes needed for the guests at each table
  • Arrange to pick up your cupcakes from your local vendor, and transport them to the venue.
  • Pick a very focal area of the reception to display them (usually next to the head table)
  • On the top tier, place something larger than a cupcake. A cake topper, a small cake, a short floral arrangement would all work to create the “cake” illusion
  • On the consecutive tiers, start placing cupcakes one by one on the surface. Remember to not stack cupcakes on top of each other as that will end up making your tier look messy and you run the risk of the cupcakes falling over.
  • Once you have finished placing the cupcakes on all the tiers and there are no empty surfaces on your plate, continue arranging the remainder of the cupcakes on the table around the plate.

Note: if you are planning to have candles on your cake table near your display, ensure the cupcakes are a safe distance from the candles.

Cupcake arranging is a fun, easy way to add some definition to your cake table without breaking the bank. If you have too much going on to handle this yourself, this is one of those tasks that most anyone can handle! Delegate, it’s OK.
