How To Find A Wedding Band

Wedding DanceThe secret to a memorable wedding party is having a great band. There are so many options out there, DJs or different styles of live bands. Classic wedding band or something a little different.  A beach wedding could be fun with a Caribbean band while a more vintage theme would do better with a jazz or swing band.

There’s always that tried and true wedding band- everybody has a good time throwing their hands up to the Isley Brothers’ Shout.  What matters more than the style is the band’s ability to work a crowd and make sure everybody from Grandma Mary to Edward Jr. has a good time.

Finding a good band can be tricky. Generally opt for bands that have played a fair amount of weddings before. Ask around to any friends or family who was recently married for suggestions. Other good places to look are local live music venues, bars and clubs. Patrons of these venues receive samples of bands all the time- get in touch with music directors of places you like to go.

Finding a local band seriously reduces the hassle of sampling and hosting trials. In addition, seeing the band performing live with a crowd is the only way to get the vibe they give off at a party. If your local music scene isn’t cutting it, make sure you get audio and video samples from the band, and if a live trial is at all possible, it’s worth the cost to know how your reception will feel.

When you do find a band you like, don’t just sign them before agreeing on specific terms. Dress code is essential. That doesn’t mean it has to be black tie. Have fun with the theme, if having a country wedding, try a cowboy theme or throw in a little Spanish inspiration to mix it up a little.

Talk with the band’s manager and agree on the terms, equipment, transportation, lodging, payment. You want to avoid any complications nearer to wedding day.
