DIY Wedding Flowers For Creative Brides
Making the wedding planner do everything had become a thing of the past. Brides today want to be as hands on as possible not only with planning but they want to get down and dirty to where the real action is. Many brides, especially the creative ones, have jumped into the bandwagon of DIY wedding. One aspect of the wedding that most of them explore is the wedding flowers.
Some begin to question if it’s really possible to create outstanding floral arrangements or would it be better to leave the job to the professional? The answer depends, primarily on the bride. If the bride has a knack for things creative, then it’s possible to make a good lasting impression with her creations. This is also helpful for the tight budget. Here are some things that will help you achieve success in this route if ever you decide to go for it.
Tips to Keep in Mind
- Keep it simple – Having no background or training in flower arrangement, it would be best for you to opt for simple but beautiful floral arrangements. It’s possible for you to tackle one complicated flower arrangement for the table centerpieces but how are you going to repeat that 10 to 12 times for the rest of the tables, right?
- Be organized – As with the rest of the wedding tasks, the things you need to do for the arrangement of the wedding flowers should be organized too. The list of things to do should include select flower blooms, buy floral arrangement accessories, have practice run before the big day, and so on. Set a deadline for each of the task to be accomplished to ensure that you’re in the right track.
- Choose the right flowers – When brides think about flowers, they right away think what their favorites are. Sure, that’s a good way to start. But other than that, you should also consider if the blooms are in season in the area where you’re getting married, if they last long enough to look beautiful throughout the wedding event and how much they cost. It’s also imperative to choose flowers that go well together. Pick those that complement each other in terms of texture and shape as well as will fit your color palette.
- Practice and practice – Don’t do the floral arrangement on the day of your wedding. Find time a couple of days before to explore various flower designs so that on the day of the wedding, you can whip up a beautiful flower arrangement sans the trouble.
Arranging your Bridal Bouquet
There are countless of possibilities for the bridal bouquet in terms of types of arrangement and combinations of flowers. First, gather the flowers by the stems. Use tulle, ribbon or any other binder to tie them down together. Make sure that the flower blooms are neatly arranged into a round form. Add some embellishments like baby’s breath or ferns into the bouquet if you like. On top of the tulle or ribbon, wrap a string of pearls or beads as accents.
Preparing the Boutonniere
Choose a small-sized flower. Cut the stem to about three inches. Place an ivy leaf or fern frond behind the flower. Bind the two together using a six-inch wire. Make sure you secure the flower into the flower bed without wires showing up. Take note too that the bed should not way beyond the top of the flower and it should be seen from the sides. You may attach a ribbon bow if you like. Also, insert a pearl-tipped pin into the stem. This will secure the boutonniere on the suit later on.
Creating the Centerpiece
Get a clear vase, ideally one that’s not the conventional shape to give the centerpiece an extraordinary look. If you’re going for the elongated cylindrical clear vase, fill the bottom part with colorful objects like fresh fruits for example. Then as you work your way up, leave some space for the flowers. Put the flowers on top. You may also use a vase with a wide opening, fill it up with water and add some colorful beads, pebbles and stones. Don’t forget of course gorgeous flower blooms. Cut the stems entirely and leave the head of the flowers only.
